In collaboration with naturKhem, the Dryland Ecology and Global Change Lab at KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) has conducted its first experiment, led by Dr. Mario Corrochano Monsalve, a postdoctoral scientist specialising in sustainable agriculture, soil science, and greenhouse gas mitigation.
The study, co-led with doctoral candidate Norah Alghamdi, focuses on evaluating the impact of biostimulants on nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and drought tolerance in Sorghum bicolor, a key crop in arid regions.
NaturKhem’s formulations were applied under controlled conditions simulating abiotic stress, allowing analysis of their effects on physiological parameters and crop productivity. Samples are currently being processed for biochemical analysis in the laboratory.
This work marks a significant step towards more resilient and sustainable agricultural practices in dryland ecosystems.
